Healthy or unhealthy food during the breaks
(in Vienna)

First I should mention that the children of this class, 13 years old, have little idea of healthy snacks and healthy food. Also, from rarely to never,  during breaks healthy food is not to be used.

Furthermore, I would like to mention that I have no experience with the supposedly positive effects of healthy food on the behaviour. In the second year of our Comenius project, we have taken up the topic and discussed.

From numerous documents we got information that, particularly for active kids, a positive effect, a model provided, could come into reality, if the type of food will be changed into healthy category.

Because we have so many of these active kids, I thought to myself that an attempt would be the way to proof.

But first I had to change my behaviour during the breaks, and wait until the children also perceived this change.

After a few days, I was raised by children, why I do not go any longer to the staff room. I tried to make my explanation as simple as possible that even the last of my pupils could find the change on my behaviour.

In the 2nd step, through films and reports, we learned, that, in addition to sweets and other unhealthy food, we also have other, healthier food.

Step 3: Discussion "Why is that food healthy?"

Outcome, influenced by myself: Makes our bodies and our minds fit, and allows us to cool down.

Then, the observation: How do the children react? Do the kids change their behaviour, and if so, how long will this behaviour be on duty?

Conclusion:

- Few children brought healthy food into the school.
- A change in behaviour was not be observed and noticed.
- After several days, not many children knew what we were talking
about.
